Cognitive Assessment
What is a cognitive assessment?
A Cognitive Assessment specifically looks at an individuals cognitive profile (intelligence). This form of assessment is helpful to understand a persons cognitive profile, know where their strengths and difficulties are, and develop learning strategies that play to their strengths.
What does a Cognitive assessment measure?
Cognitive assessment measures intelligence across multiple domains that are considered together in the areas of verbal comprehension, visual spatial, working memory, processing speed and fluid reasoning skills, together these create a full scale intelligence quotient (IQ).
How can a cognitive assessment help?
A cognitive assessment and understanding of an individuals cognitive strengths can help educators plan and implement learning variations to suit individuals. it can help parents work towards strengths of a child, and can help an individual be aware of how they learn best.
There are different cognitive assessments for certain age ranges including; WPPSI (children 2:6yrs -7:7yrs ) WISC5 (children 6:0yrs -16:11yrs), WAIS-5 (adults 16+yrs -90yrs)

Learning and Educational Assessment
What is a Learning and Educational assessment?
This assessment involves assessments of academic achievement and is used for investigating strengths and difficulties in learning as well as specific learning disorder (more commonly known under three titles; dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalcula)
What does a learning assessment measure?
A comprehensive learning and education assessment measures an individuals reading, writing, spelling, math, receptive and expressive communication and cognitive ability. This is considered in light of current academic ability and achievement including school reports and information. Together with interviews and questionnaires this information is evaluated to understand a persons academic ability, learning difficulties and areas where strengths are evident.
How can Learning assessment help?
Specific learning disorders are recognised in the education system, as areas where a student requires formal and structured support. Having a specific learning disorder diagnosis can help a school develop and implement suitable supports, interventions, targeted learning, and teacher to their strengths where possible.
TLC uses a combination of cognitive assessments mentioned above as well as achievement assessments WIAT-4, KTea-3, PPVT-5, EVT-3, and adaptive assessments Vineland-3 or ABAS-3.

ADHD Assessment
What is an ADHD assessment?
ADHD Assessment includes a number of emotional and behavioural observations and assessments that look at a persons possible ADHD traits including inattention and distractibility, impulsivity, hyperactivity. This information is gathered from parents and teachers as well as via psychologist interview and observations.
Why complete and ADHD Assessment?
A comprehensive ADHD assessment helps to map and track an individuals emotions and behaviours and gauge how these impact daily functioning, learning, relationships and mental health. An ADHD assessment is integral in helping a person understand their pattern of behaviour and help them make adjustments and develop supporting skills to help them achieve and thrive.
How can an ADHD assessment help?
Your ADHD assessments are interpreted and complied into a profile report complete with strategies and resource avenues to help move forward and support progress and wellbeing. Knowing is power, if you understand how and why you behave or react in certain ways or situations, you can better equip yourself with strategies to live your best life.
TLC Rural Psychology we use a range of ADHD assessments including the the Behaviour Assessment Scale Children-3, Conners-4, Conners Early Childhood, Vineland-3, Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System (ABAS-3), DIVA 5, Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS-25), Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS).

Autism Assessments
What is an Autism assessment?
An Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment involves a number of face to face and remote assessments including intake interviews, behavioural observations (based on play for children and interview for adults), psychologist observation , parent/partner/close contact interview and questionnaires and teacher/friend/colleague questionnaires and a number of different assessment tools.
What does an Autism assessment measure?
A comprehensive Autism assessment helps to develop identify the presence of Autism as well as map the individuals unique Autism presentation and behavioural profile.
How can an Autism assessment help?
An Autism assessment is important for individuals to seek formal supports, accommodations and adjustments in school and possibly through to further study. Knowing the unique pattern of behaviours, thought patterns and social aspects of one's Autism Spectrum can help empower individuals to develop interventions and supports that help them manage their world and their success within it. Assessment information is an integral part of an NDIS application as well as special provisions in school settings.
At TLC Rural Psychology we use a range of Autism assessments including the the MIGDAS-2, ADOS-2 and ADI-R, Social responsiveness scales (SRS-2), Autism Quotient, GARS-3 and a number of screening tools such as the extreme demand avoidance questionnaire (EDA-Q), CAT-Q, CATI.

Behavioural Assessment
​​What is behavioural assessment?
Behavioural Assessment involves a combination of psychological observation and interviews with parents, the individual and teachers utilising a number of different assessment tools.
What does a behaviour assessment measure?
A comprehensive behaviour assessment helps to develop an understanding of an individuals behaviours, emotions, reactions and resilience in areas such as anxiety, depressions, social skills, self esteem and general mental health.
How can a behaviour assessment help?
This type of assessment helps to identify emotional and behavioural strengths and difficulties, how these impact in the home or classroom/workplace and help guide future interventions, strategies and accommodations to help the individual thrive.
At TLC Rural Psychology we use a range of emotional and behavioural assessments including the Behaviour Assessment System for Children (BASC-3), The Resilience Scales, Social Responsiveness Scales (SRS-2), and a range of anxiety and depression assessments and screeners.
